- table of contents: list of reports
Here are some good reports to look at first:
- Pages and Files: Top Pages
- Referring Sites: Referrer ("No Referrer" means they went directly to your website)
- Referring Sites: Search Engines
- Visitors: less useful because of "clearinghouse" Internet access providers (e.g., all AOL users are from VA)
- Navigation: Top Entry Pages (1st page viewed when user comes to your site)
- Technical: Page/Hits Views Trend
- Browsers: Top Browsers by Version ...and... Top Platforms
- Content Groups
- Report View
- most begin with summary "Dashboard View"
- "Help Card Section" - describes where data comes from for this report
- search feature is great - Be Careful: it's space sensitive
- reports show space after every / (WebTrends 6 "oddity" fixed in WebTrends 7)
Refining the Reports
When you first look at your reports, you're likely to find
reporting oddities that need to be fixed for truly helpful reports.
The WebTrends committee will help you make the necessary changes
to your profile so the reports are as accurate as possible.
- Remove Junk Pages
Some "pages" are actually downloads of page components (such
as images and stylesheets).
- http://www.yoursite.org/Home/PublicWeb/Images/icon.gif
- Consolidate Pages
Some pages are reported with different URLs, even though they
are actually the same page in your website. These pages can
be consolidated to report as a single page.
- http://www.yoursite.org/Home/PublicWeb/index_html
- Internal Hits
You probably don't want your statistics to include you and
other administrative staff working on the website. You can
exclude such activity.
- ip address
- authenticated user name (e.g., jbennett)
- URLs containing "Admin"
Tips and Helpful Hints
While learning WebTrends, most of us stumble over the same spots.
Here are some Tips and helpful hints we've caught along the way.
Please share your discoveries so we can post them here to help
other newcomers.
This list has grown enough to warrant its own page. Please go to the
Tips page.
TIG Reporting Scenarios
Since all TIG grantees are required to submit the same statistics
for their websites, we've compiled a set of instructions for where to
get the required numbers in WebTrends.
Please go to the LSC Reporting page.
